Understanding Terms: Power, Energy, and Capacity of a Power Station

In this short article, we will talk about the most important terms related to the portable power station: Energy, Power, and Capacity.

The main component of the power station is the battery. Electric battery stores electric energy as DC for later usage. Any Battery have its power, energy, and capacity, so what are the difference between theses terms.

Capacity/Energy of Portable power Station

The capacity rating is how much energy can the power station store in the battery and it is measured in (Wh) or (kWh). The energy rating is the measure of how much electricity the station/battery can deliver or absorb over the course of an hour and it is also measured in (Wh) or (kWh).

So, the capacity rating of the power station provides an estimate of the amount of energy that can be stored.

For example, Powerlife 500 power station has a capacity of 540Wh. So, if it has 50% of its capacity, then the energy remaining is 270Wh.

Output Power of Portable power Station

The rated output power of a power station is the maximum continuous power that can flow out of the power station in any given instant and it is measured in (W) or (kW). However, the output peak power is the instant surge output power that can flow out of the power station for only few seconds, it is also measured in (W) or (kW).

For example, Powerlife 500 power station has a rated power of 500W and surge power of 1000W.
